The Sixth National Postdoctoral Forum on Computer Science

On December 16, 2018, under the strong support of the National Postdoctoral Management Committee Office, the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, the Information Science Department of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the China Computer Society, 2018 The Sixth National Postdoctoral Forum on Computer Science, organized by Peng Cheng Laboratory (PCL), was successively held in PCL, Shenzhen, Guangdong Province.

The forum centers around the hot issues of IT industry core technology, cyberspace science, artificial intelligence and post-doctoral technological innovation, attended by leaders of Shenzhen Municipal Government, well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad, representatives from local universities and enterprises, and outstanding post-doctoral representatives.

On the morning of the 16th, Gao Wen, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of PCL; Zhao Qinping, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Chen Ying, Director of the Fund Management Division of the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation; Zhang Zhiping, Vice Chairman of the Shenzhen Association of Science and Technology; and Xu Wei, Deputy Director of the Department of Computer Science, Tsinghua University made the opening speeches. What followed was the unveiling ceremony of the PCL’s post-doctoral workstation.


Zou Peng, deputy director of PCL, then introduced the general status of PCL for the attendees to acquire a deeper understanding of PCL. The first reporter is Professor Huang Zhengneng of the University of Washington, whose theme is “The Collaborative Exploration of the Three-dimensional Physical World from Visual Big Data”. Then, Professor Tao Dacheng from the University of Sydney delivers a report on "AI at Dawn-Opportunities and Challenges". The last guest Professor Li Wei of Zhejiang University gives the report on the theme of "Design of Visual Model and Its Application". After the reports, Huang He, deputy director of the Talent Bureau of the Organization Department of Shenzhen Municipal Committee, interpreted the talent policy of Shenzhen.

The afternoon of the 16th has witnessed two sub-forums. At the “Outbound Postdocs Sharing Work Experience and Life Perceptions Forum”, directors and professors of the Information and Industry Development Department of the National Information Center, the Information Department of Shenzhen Graduate School of Tsinghua University, Tsinghua University, the Automation Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University Postdoctoral Alumni Association, Sanya Research Center of the Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth (CAS), shared their work experience and life perceptions.

In the subsequent "Postdoctoral Management Sharing Forum ", leaders and teachers from Tsinghua University, Peking University, Zhejiang University, National University of Defense Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Software (Chinese Academy of Sciences), Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology (Chinese Academy of Sciences), Postdoctoral Workstation Management Office of Beijing Haidian Science and Technology Park, the Post-doctoral Management Office of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, have shared their insights on postdoctoral management.

Approximately 240 guests have attended the forum, which brought together a large number of experts and scholars in the field to exchange opinions and discuss important issues such as the current social hotspots and opportunities for post-doctoral scientific and technological innovation. The themes discussed are detailed and targeted, which is to President Xi Jinping’s important instruction on strengthening the establishment of the talent team and building various forms of high-level talent training platforms. Meanwhile the forum is also conducive to expanding the opportunities for exchanges between postdocs and the community, and promoting the post-docs in computer science to accurately grasp the international vision and national needs.
