Seminar on Quantum Algorithm, Quantum Software and Quantum Cloud

Quantum computing is a new computing model that follows the laws of quantum mechanics to control quantum information units for computation.
Some quantum algorithms have proved to be much faster than the algorithms of traditional computers. The research of quantum computing may have historical significance. To this end, PCL established the project of "Quantum Algorithm and Software Cloud Platform" in 2018 and the "Research Center for Quantum Computing" to promote the project.
From April 30 to May 1, the Seminar on Quantum Algorithm, Quantum Software and Quantum Cloud was successfully held by PCL Research Center for Quantum Computing. About 90 experts and scholars in the field of quantum research at home and abroad attended the seminar.
Tao Mei, the Assistant Director of the Lab, introduced the development of the Lab. He particularly emphasized the need to strengthen the relationship between quantum computing and artificial intelligence in the future and to empower AI through quantum computing.
Academician Dapeng Yu warmly welcomed the attending experts and introduced the construction of the Research Center for Quantum Computing. He pointed out that research scientists should be encouraged to make independent innovation.
Prof. Ning Cai from ShanghaiTech University, Prof. Yuan Feng from Sidney University and Xiaoming Sun from Institute of Computing Technology Chinese Academy of Sciences gave three reports respectively on “Information Channel: From Classic to Quantum”, “Quantum Software” and “Quantum Algorithm”.

On the second day of the seminar, Prof. Bei Zeng, the principal investigator of the project, introduced the current personnel structure of the Research Center for Quantum Computing and the status of the project of quantum algorithm and software cloud platform. Afterwards, the participating experts conducted group discussions. The topics of five groups include quantum algorithm and complexity theory; programming language and program verification, architecture; simulator, quantum computing management and cloud platform; quantum control algorithm; quantum information. The scholars introduced their latest research results and recent research plans, and had a heated discussion on the research focus and future developments of quantum computing.
The representatives of these groups reported on the results of their discussion at the end of the seminar, mainly focusing on the work plan of the quantum algorithm and software cloud platform from 2019 to 2020 and the future research plan for the period 2021- 2025. The seminar laid a solid foundation for the future development of the quantum algorithm and the project of software cloud platform.
