PCL Holds the 3rd Session of the Academic Committee

The 1st Academic Committee held its 3rd meeting on June 18. The meeting was hosted by the Chair of the Committee Professor Yunhe Pan, and attended by 15 committee members as well as representatives from the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, and Shenzhen Technology and Innovation Commission.
PCL’s Deputy Director Peng Zou reported the recent progress of the PCL. Deputy Director Zewei Wen of the Department of Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province appraised PCL’s achievements in the past year and expressed his expectation for the future development of PCL.
PCL’s Director Professor Wen Gao and Chair of the Academic Committee Professor Yunhe Pan presented the appointment letter for several new committee members.
PCL’s Assistant Director Professor Tao Mei, the Secretary General of the Academic Committee, reported the research progress of the PCL for the first half of 2019 and presented the work plan of the second half of the year. Representatives of five research centers also reported on their academic progress.
The Committee reviewed the enhanced project scheme of the Research Center for Artificial Intelligence. The Committee appraised the PCL’s recent academic work and offered suggestions on its future development. It was agreed that PCL had carried out effective explorations in terms of infrastructure construction, scientific research and talent team building, scientific and technological cooperation and exchange, and institutional mechanism innovation. It has achieved significant results and is showing a good momentum. The key projects are progressing smoothly as planned, and a number of milestone results have been achieved. The Committee approved of PCL’s new direction and new focus on the next generation of artificial intelligence, and its continuous adaptation for the scientific research. It is recommended that PCL further strengthen its exploration for the innovation mechanisms of scientific research, carry out in-depth research along the new direction in artificial intelligence, and explore a better practice for building large-scale scientific facilities in the information field.
